on hold

Well, hello! I know I’ve been M.I.A. but my “normal” life has been on hold. My dad was in the hospital for 10 days and things got a little hairy. All is well now and we are returning to our regularly scheduled broadcast.

November is all about being grateful. That I am.

Scott took this photo a couple days ago – sunrises continue to inspire us around here.

Happy 101010!

Here’s what was going on at 10 something (I was trying to get a decent shot at exactly 10:00 or 10:10, but that didn’t happen) this morning at our house:

bits & pieces

some random bits & pieces:

1. Yesterday I started a new knitting project: this simple ribbed cowl found via Ravelry.

Mine is a deep blue and I hope I finish it before spring (I knit slow)

2. I saw a girl wearing clogs like these this morning and now I’m obsessed. Are clogs back? I haven’t worn clogs in at least 10+ years and suddenly I think I need them.

3. This reminds me – I’m also obsessed with a blouse I saw somewhere (I can’t remember where – maybe Lucky magazine? – but the image is stuck in my head) It might have been this blouse by Alexa Chung for Madewell?

I’m not sure, but I found a dusty rose version at H&M and it will have to suffice for now.

4. I read this article on Wayne Thiebaud in the NY Times last Sunday – I love his work.

5. Today I tried Starbucks’ new Cinnamon Spice Via C instant coffee and I was surprised to discover (I’ve never liked flavored coffee before) that it tastes almost as good as a Cinnamon Dolce latte. This is great news for me, as I love Cinnamon Dolce lattes!

6. And I really like this clutch:

vacation hangover

It’s been over a week since Scott & I got home from our trip to Cabo and I think today was the first day that finally felt like things were back to normal. We had an amazing vacation – lots of doing nothing, lots of fun with friends (we went with another couple), lots of eating/drinking, lots of sun - and all of it was refreshingly kid-free.

This was our first real trip away from the kids and it went great for them as well as for us. The only things that went wrong happened after we got home: I got a nasty cold that lasted a week, Scott pulled something in his back, and our new used car wouldn’t start. We managed to make it through and I think we have officially re-acclimated to reality.

Now I just need to lose the 5 lbs worth of margaritas and guacamole that I brought back with me from Mexico!

Here are a couple more new pieces to show you:

blueberry jam necklace – I love love love these teal and navy vintage Lucite buttons – they’re so shiny and so saturated they’re almost juicy!

night sky necklace – this one is kind of subtle, but also a tiny bit fancy because of the amazing glittery vintage Lucite disc and the navy faceted glass beads.

another day of firsts

George had his first day of school on Tuesday and it went great!

And I thoroughly enjoyed my hour and a half of free time while both kids were in school! Breakfast with a friend (and fellow preschool & kindergarten mom) at Easy Street – I don’t think either of us had been there for breakfast since before kids. It was good. Greasy and good :)

Jane went to the circus with her grandparents recently and I think it must have seeped into my subconscious and resulted in these two new pieces:

trapeze earrings – these yellow cone shaped beads are rare vintage Czech glass and also the perfect shade of yellow. I love how they gently swing on the gold rings.

balance beam necklace – an orange/rust vintage Lucite tube bead and a turquoise faceted glass bead slide along two lengths of delicate sterling silver chain. A lot of movement in this one.
