This
is now old news, a week and a half old actually, but I still have to share. A
gray whale came to visit West Seattle on March 27 and we were lucky enough to
see him! We read reports of sightings on the West Seattle Blog all day as he
slowly worked his way around the peninsula. When we heard he was heading close
to our house we all jumped in the car and within minutes were standing near the
shore watching it surface and spout just a few feet in front of us.

. . .
Our
not so quiet whale watchers putting on an impromptu show for the crowd:
Eventually
a tour boat came by and the whale disappeared. We decided to drive a bit south
to Jack Block Park and as soon as we got out of the car we heard cheers as the
whale surfaced again just a few feet from the pier.
We watched for quite a
while until darkness and the kids’ bedtimes forced us to head home. Here’s a
great photo from seattlepi.com later that night.
And
then to top it off there was a fireworks show.
What
a day.
